Who we are?

Incorporated in 2014, Fondation de la cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption de Moncton Inc. (the Foundation) is a legal entity independent of the Archdiocese of Moncton that oversees the management of donated funds raised under the direction of a board of directors.

Our Beginnings

After an assessment of the building's condition in 2009 by a firm of architects and various engineering specialists, it was determined that the cathedral needed extensive maintenance to preserve it. At the time, the cost of this work, estimated at approximately $7 million, was far beyond the financial capacity of the cathedral's parish...some said the cathedral should be considered for demolition!

With this in mind, the Foundation was created to protect "our" cathedral.

Our Mission

To protect and preserve the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral National Historic Site by restoring, developing and maintaining Moncton's cathedral, a monument of Acadian recognition, to commemorate the site and raise public awareness of its importance to the Acadian community and the history of New Brunswick.
