Incorporated in 2014, La Fondation de la cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Moncton Inc. is a legal entity independent of the Archdiocese of Moncton. Under the direction of a board of directors, The Foundation oversees the management of donated funds.

Saving Moncton's cathedral is first and foremost an initiative to protect an important jewel of Acadian architectural heritage. The nave will continue to serve as a place of worship for the practising members of the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral parish, but the building as a whole has a community vocation, as was the strong desire of its builder, Mgr. Arthur Melanson, Moncton's first archbishop.

In 2012, Archbishop Valéry Vienneau recalled that "the cathedral is a building of great importance, not only for its religious, heritage and architectural interests, but also for its symbolic value for the Acadian people." The cathedral is at a crossroads, and he was happy to see its new vocation with the "Place de la Cathédrale" project.

Arriving in 2023, new Archbishop Guy Desrochers, was very pleased of the Foundation's committment to its mission to preserve the bulding.

The Place de la Cathédrale project is the result of a strategy to generate additional long-term revenue for the cathedral by renting out the floor under the nave, a 1,412-square-foot space where approximately 50 people work. These office and meeting spaces will be furnished and rented by the Archdiocese of Moncton to Acadian organizations, and the income from the rental will ensure the longevity of the cathedral for generations to come. The community spaces will be known to the public as "Place de la Cathédrale.”

The Fondation de la cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Moncton Inc. is a charitable organization established solely to raise and administer funds for the building of the same name. Donations will therefore be used for the cathedral's renovation and maintenance projects.

An assessment of the building's condition in 2009, conducted by an architectural firm and various engineering specialists, identified major maintenance needs to ensure the building's safety. The following three (3) major projects already identified could not be completed due to lack of funding:

1. Permanent cladding of the entire sloped roof.
2. Replacement of the exterior windows in the nave of the church, second floor and bell tower. The stained glass windows remain intact.
3. Exterior mortar repair and stone cleaning.

Yes, all donors receive a tax receipt. For donations made online at CanadaHelps.org, receipts will be sent by the organization as soon as the donation is complete. Receipts are mailed for donations made by cheque, direct bank deposits, cash or planned donation.
