A Word of Thanks
Marie-Linda Lord, President of the Campaign Committee
With gratitude, the campaign committee would like to thank you for your invaluable support during the recent fundraising drive that enabled the completion of the first phase of renovations to the Cathedral. Your generosity made it possible to preserve the Monument de la Reconnaissance, a testament to our culture and heritage. Together, we have made a gesture that is making history and shaping a bright future for our Acadian heritage.
Your exemplary participation in this great collaborative project reminds us that when we join forces, there is no limit to what we can accomplish together and inspires us to redouble our efforts to fulfill our commitment to the next phases of the Cathedral's renovations.
Once again, THANK YOU for your support, generosity, and confidence. Your contribution reaffirms your commitment to our shared values and the importance you place on preserving our heritage. We invite you to follow the progress of the safeguard project and witness its success.
With all my gratitude,
Most Reverend Valéry Vienneau, Archbishop of Moncton (2012-2023)
It is with deep gratitude and a heart full of joy that I address you. As Archbishop at the time of the renovation of the Cathedral, I wish to express my sincere gratitude for your unwavering generosity during the fundraising campaign for the renovation of the Cathedral.
Your gesture of compassion and generosity has truly touched us in the preservation of our religious heritage. Your commitment has contributed to the first phase of this ambitious project to restore the splendour and grandeur of this historic site. Thanks to your support, we are now able to restore this architectural jewel, which stands majestically in the heart of our city, to its former glory.
Through your generous donations, you have helped to write a new page in our history. Your contribution will be etched in our memories and in the history of our community for generations to come.
THANK YOU for your tireless dedication and generosity. May you find in the heritage sites you have helped preserve an inexhaustible source of peace, inspiration, and grace.
With respect and gratitude,
Most Reverend Guy Desrochers, Archbishop
Dear Cathedral donors,
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and personal sacrifice during the first phase of the renovation and restoration of Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral. On October 18, 2023, when I was officially installed as the new Archbishop of Moncton, the first building and visual landmark that struck me upon arriving in the city was this majestic Art Deco church, standing tall in the middle of the city.
Looking at this unique architectural structure from afar, I am reminded of the great Statue of Liberty, which has become both an icon and an extraordinary centre of attraction for New Yorkers and passersby alike. Like that statue, our Cathedral is a symbol and a monument to the pride and resilience of the Acadian people, who have insisted on preserving their language, their unique culture, and their moral and religious values despite the many obstacles that have arisen over the past few centuries.
Archbishop Emeritus Valéry Vienneau helped to protect this precious Acadian heritage when he encouraged and supported efforts to renovate the cathedral in order to safeguard its existence. I am very grateful to him for believing, despite the pessimism of some, in the restoration of this high place of worship, which attracts not only the faithful but also tourists from all over the world and reminds us all of the need to stand together in good times and bad.
I'd like to remind everyone that our "Statue of Liberty," like our homes and buildings, continues to need periodic facelifts. In addition to restoring its aesthetic beauty, we must also ensure that we complete our three essential major upcoming projects: the permanent cladding of the entire sloped roof, the replacement of the nave exterior windows (the stained glass windows remain intact), the repair of the exterior stone mortar, and, finally, the completion of the stone cleaning. Waiting too long to carry out these essential projects contributes to a significant increase in expenses over time.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you who continues to believe in the need to protect and fully restore this symbol and monument to the pride and resilience of the Acadian people. Our Cathedral must always be beautiful and rock solid if it is to stand as a beacon of light and guidance day and night.
Solidarity, pride and gratitude! These are the expressions that arise in my heart as I close this message to you.

Three Upcoming Projects
Significant construction projects that have already been identified but have not been completed due to lack of funds will be carried out in due course, according to the future financial capacity of The Foundation. These projects are estimated to cost several million dollars. The order of priority for these projects is as follows:
- Permanent cladding of the entire sloped roof
- Replacement of the exterior windows in the nave of the church, second floor and bell tower. The stained glass windows remain intact.
- Exterior mortar repair and stone cleaning
Once again … THANK YOU!!
